Chung Min-Young
Abstract
Insulin and C-peptide response to an oral glucose load have been assessed in 10 cirrhotic, 5 non-obese maturity onset diabetic, and 5 normal subjects.
I. In normal subject, blood glucose levels at fasting state, 1-hour, and 2-hour after glucose load were 78.4¡¾2.97 mg/100,ml, 102.4¡¾6.92 mg/100 ml, and 81.0¡¾5.70 mg/100 ml, respectively. Blood insulin levels were 19.2¡¾0.96uU/ml, 85.2¡¾10.34 uU/ml, and 352¡¾3.55 uU/ml, and C-peptide levels were 1.83¡¾0. 10 ng/ml, 8.02¡¾0.25 ng/ml. and 3.94¡¾0.28 ng/ml, respectively.
II. In the group of diabetes, blood glucose levels were 160.0¡¾21.73 mg/100 ml 275.0¡¾32.41 mg/100 ml, and 299.8¡¾49. 15 mg/300 ml respectively. Insulin levels in the blood were 10.0¡¾2.29 uU/ml, 20.6¡¾ 5.23¢¥uU/ml, and 29.0¡¾0.40 uU/ml, and C-peptide levels were 0.84¡¾0.44 ng/ml, 2.93¡¾0.68 ng/ml, and 3.04¡¾0.88 ng/ml respectively.
1. In subject of liver cirrhosis, blood glucose levels were 72.6¡¾4.31 mg/100 ml, 172.6¡¾17.23 mg/ 100 mi, and 160.7-¡¾5.42mg/100ml respectively. Blood insulin levels were 20.8¡¾1.88 uU/ml, 109.9¡¾27.76 uU/ml, and 157.0¡¾41.56 uU/ml respectively; C-peptide levels Were 0.88¡¾0.21ng/ml, 3.88¡¾0.46ng/ml, and 5.64¡¾-1.06ng/ml, respectively.
The above result is suggested that in differentiation between maturity onset diabetes and hepatic diabetes, C-peptide measurement after oral glucose load could be helpful.
